Douglas County Slash/Mulch Site is Now Open

From the Official Douglas County, Colorado Website

Douglas County has announced the opening of its yard waste disposal site starting on April 6, 2024. Located at 1400 Caprice Drive in Castle Rock, this facility will serve the communities of Castle Pines, Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker, and Roxborough.

The site will open its gates every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the end of October, weather permitting. For updates on closures due to inclement weather, residents are encouraged to call 303-663-6274.

Drop Off of acceptable items (described below) is FREE. You must make sure that your load is completely covered when you arrive for dropoff.

Your Load Must be Completely Covered and Consist of Only Separated Tree Limbs, Shrubs, Pinecones and Grass Clippings

Acceptable Items

Residents can drop off a variety of yard waste materials at no cost, including tree limbs, shrubs, pinecones, and grass clippings. It’s important to separate the slash materials such as tree limbs, pine needles, and brush from green yard waste like grass, sod, leaves, and weeds. This helps streamline the unloading process and ensures that materials are disposed of properly and safely in their designated areas.

The maximum acceptable length of all items is six feet – with a maximum diameter of one foot.

Unacceptable Items

Don’t bring anything besides the tree limbs, shrubs, pinecones and grass clipping mentioned earlier. Inorganic and many organic materials will NOT be accepted. The list of unacceptable materials that won’t be allowed includes (but isn’t limited to) the following.

  • Appliances
  • Compost
  • Decorative wood chips
  • Dirt
  • Fencing
  • Grass/hay
  • Household trash/yard waste
  • Leaves
  • Lumber/pallets/railroad ties
  • Pine cones
  • Roots/stumps
  • Weeds
  • Yucca plants

Free Mulch

As part of the re-opening of the site for the season, residential homeowners will be able to load free wood chip mulch. Mulch has many positive properties for your landscaping including moisture retention, weed suppression, soil temperature regulation and fertilization properties (to name just a few).
